Book Party, New York City, October 20, 2007

The first party to celebrate the publication of No Easy Victories was held on Saturday, October 20, 2007 during the 50th anniversary meeting of the African Studies Association. Activists from New York City joined others in town for the ASA meeting, packing the second floor of McGee's Pub on West 55th Street, a few blocks from the convention hotel.

Sponsored by Africa World Press, Solidarity Research and Writing LLC (the book editors), the Association of Concerned Africa Scholars, and AfricaFocus Bulletin, the event brought together old and new friends spanning more than five decades of activism. Those present included Kassahun Checole, publisher of Africa World Press (AWP), AWP editor Damola Ifaturoti, designer Sam Saverance, editors Bill Minter and Gail Hovey, chapter author Walter Turner, and copyeditor Cathy Sunshine.

Also present were a number of activists who appear in the book: George Houser, Bill Sutherland, Jennifer Davis, Dumisani Kumalo, Annie King, Richard Knight, Mike Fleshman, Mia Adjali, Nunu Kidane, Cornelius Moore, Tami Hultman, Reed Kramer, and Stephanie Urdang ... and so many others that the pub approached and passed its legal capacity.
